Migration | Biodôme

Permanent exhibition 2020 | Space for life

Project Background

Opened in 1992 to mark Montreal’s 350th anniversary, the Biodôme underwent major renovations in the early 2020s. La bande à Paul was invited to take part in the extensive renewal effort, Migration, led by Kanva Architecture.

What La bande à Paul Brought to the Table

To offer a renewed perspective on the Biodôme’s ecosystems, a belvedere was added, allowing visitors to overlook the natural habitats from above. To reveal the inner workings of the site, La bande à Paul created the Bio-machine: a monumental installation of 24 thematic stations perched atop the belvedere. Through a mix of digital and mechanical interactives, visitors discover the behind-the-scenes world of ecosystem maintenance, animal care, feeding, and birth management, learning through play while gaining a new appreciation for the complex operations that sustain life within the Biodôme.
