Vimy, Beyond the Battle | Canadian war museum

Temporary exhibition 2017 | Canadian war museum

Project Background

To mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge—a defining moment in Canadian history—the Canadian War Museum commissioned La bande à Paul to design a temporary exhibition. Conceived as a reflection on the meaning of commemoration, the exhibition unfolded through a series of personal stories: some rooted in the battle itself, others drawn from more recent memory.

What La bande à Paul Brought to the Table

The museum sought a bold, contemporary approach. La bande à Paul responded with an experience grounded in interactivity and narrative depth. The exhibition design encouraged dialogue among visitors, replacing conventional panels with lectern-style fixtures that opened up the space. Artefacts and personal testimonies were placed within an immersive lighting and sound environment, creating a moving emotional arc that invited reflection on remembrance, loss, and legacy.
