2050: Between Dream and Reality | Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium

Temporary exhibition 2015 | Space for life

Project Background

In 2014, the Rio Tinto Alcan Planétarium entrusted La bande à Paul with the turnkey design of a compact exhibition titled From Dream to Reality. The goal was to introduce the Planétarium’s time capsule project for the year 2050 while showcasing 25 winning texts from the provincial French-language exam administered that year by Québec’s Ministry of Education.

What La bande à Paul Brought to the Table

The concept of the time capsule was inspired by the plaques affixed to the Pioneer 10 and 11 space probes—like messages in a bottle cast into the vast unknown. These interstellar communications shaped both the visual environment and the graphic design developed by La bande à Paul. To mark the presence of the capsule hidden inside the Planetarium’s former Zeiss projector, the team created a gleaming polished brass medallion, once again drawing on the imagery of the Pioneer plaques. Affixed to the capsule’s seal, it draws the eye and sparks curiosity.
