Project Background

For over twenty years, the municipality of Baie-Comeau has sought to commemorate its distinction as the birthplace of Brian Mulroney, Canada’s Prime Minister from 1984 to 1993. In 2020, the committee behind the initiative invited La bande à Paul to support the project’s development, particularly with respect to content and interpretive strategy for the proposed site.

What La bande à Paul Brought to the Table

From the outset, La bande à Paul proposed an approach that would present not only the political legacy of Brian Mulroney (who passed away in 2024), but also a portrait of the man himself. While his tenure as Canada’s 18th Prime Minister anchors the narrative, the exhibition also explores his deep loyalty to friends, his devotion to family, his enduring affection for his hometown, and personal setbacks, such as the failure of the Meech Lake Accord. Designed in five thematic zones, the exhibition weaves together exclusive content, personal artifacts, audiovisual materials, and meaningful interactive activities.
